Our Cleaning Tips

6 Quick Tips

1 Blot spills don't rub, rubbing can cause fuzzy areas on the carpet, blot any residue with a clean cloth

2 Get to it quick, this will prevent the spill from penetrating the carpet fibres and causing a stain

3 Try warm water, most spills can be treated with warm water (not hot) applied to the carpet immediately

4 Carpet stain removal, mix 30% white vinegar and 70% water when finished flush out the vinegar with plain water

5 Press the carpet dry after treatment, use a clean white cloth to press dry the carpet and remove moisture

6 Phone for expert advice, we're happy to advise you on any spills you're dealing with

Urine: a Common Problem

Urine starts to smell like ammonia as bacteria starts to break it down. Incomplete cleaning will attract cats and dogs back to the same soiled spot because they can smell the urine odour. Until you completely remove all traces of urine, the odour will continue to resurface. Also an ammonia cleaning product will attract the animals back to that spot, so avoid ammonia based cleaning products when cleaning pet accidents. To remove wet urine blot with a clean white cloth until dry. Then Mix 1/3 of a cup of white vinegar with 2/3 of a cup of water. Saturate the urine area with the vinegar solution and blot with a clean white towel. Then flush the vinegar solution out with plain water. Repeat if necessary. Dry the carpet by placing a dry white towel on the wet carpet and stand on the towel to absorb the moisture. Repeat until the carpet is dry to the touch. If there is a yellow stain after the carpet has dried or if the odour is still present use 3% hydrogen peroxide, available from the supermarket or chemist. Test in a inconspicuous area of the carpet or upholstery first, then spray over the stain and leave to dry completely. If it's a stubborn stain or a very strong odor, you may need to repeat the process. The hydrogen peroxide will most often remove the yellow stain.

To Remove Red Wine

Blot with a clean white cloth until dry. Then Mix 1/3 of a cup of white vinegar with 2/3 of a cup of water. Saturate the red wine stain with the vinegar solution and blot with a clean towel. Then flush the vinegar solution out with plain water. Repeat if necessary. Then dry the carpet by placing a dry white towel on the wet carpet and stand on the towel to absorb the moisture. Repeat until the carpet is dry to the touch.
